This type of celosia can be grown for its strikingly purple flowers. In fact, it was awarded a special mention in the 2024 Saanich Fair. Each plant produces many sideshoots and flowers. If planted later in the season it will provide more greens and at a young stage has an earthiness that is not too sour. With origins from Nigeria, this plant is also known as a cooking green, it is rich in iron, protein and healthful antioxidants including vitamins C and E.
