Triticum turgidum, ssp. turanicum

This ancient and easy to grow wheat variety comes from Western Asia and found its way to North America via Egypt after WWII. Also called Kamut, it has large seedheads and produces well in a wide range of soil conditions. Enjoy boiled as wheat berries, ground into a flour, and the large heads with decorative black awns make it a great choice for dried floral arrangements.

Avoid growing in water-logged soils as it can be prone to root rot in colder weather.
