Glycine max

A productive heirloom that's beautiful and easy to grow. Originally from Japan, this variety was introduced to North America in the 1920's and is suited for a shorter growing season. Slightly flattened beans are tan/olive green with a dark brown saddle, growing in tight pods on sturdy, compact plants 12-18" tall - no support needed. Known as an edamame variety, harvest early for fresh eating or allow to dry on the plant longer for cooking or making soy milk, tofu, tempeh, or miso! Grow your own protein! (46% protein, 19% oil).
